I have to admit that I was living quite a sedentary lifestyle ever since I got to America. I was being lazy, lazy to get my heart rate pumping for cardiovascular benefits.
My mommy has been nagging me non-stop that I should exercise more instead of being a couch potato. The reason is, pregnant women who exercise more tend to have an easier natural childbirth. It also means less hours of labour.
That particular reason instantly got me all perked up to walk more. Walking is the easiest way to get started on a regular fitness routine, and it doesn’t require any special equipment other than a good pair of walking shoes!
For the past 2 weeks, I have been walking about 20-25 minutes per session, 4 times a week. I felt good with my heart rate pumped up, and I slept better on days that I walked as compared to non-walking days.
I am entering Week 19 tomorrow, and I should gradually increase my walking duration to 30 minutes per session.
On the other hand, I cannot wait for the swimming pool to be opened in the month of May. Swimming during pregnancy is ultra beneficial because the water helps hold up mama-to-be’s extra weight. And there is no additional stress and strain which is placed on your body and joints while you are exercising.
Oh well, I will keep walking until the day I dip myself in a pool!
