It’s a brand new year all over again. I am sure many of us have New Year goals and resolutions at the beginning of each year but not many of us go all the way to the finish line.
For the past many years, I set myself a list of goals and dreams I would like to accomplish, and somehow, I always fail to accomplish them.
Am I going to do something a little different for 2016? Not really different, I suppose.
I decided to stick with last year’s resolution and continue this journey which requires a lot of resilience.
Here’s a recap of what I said I wanted to do in 2015:
To Dig Deeper – I want to challenge myself to read more of His Word.
To Pray and Listen More – I want to spend more time with Him and learn to listen to His voice.
To Live A Healthier Lifestyle – I want to consume less processed food and eat REAL food.
To Read More – I want to read at least one book every three months.
To Live Well by Spending Less – Inspired by this blogger, I would like to commit to living contently with what I have by spending less.
In all honesty, I was charging on with full speed at the beginning of last year. By the time I found out I was pregnant and shipwrecked myself a few times towards the end of pregnancy, I tossed this golden list aside. After my son was born, to make the list as part of my lifestyle was seemingly impossible.
Now, I am given another chance to be challenged for a new year.
As much as I want to be intentional about achieving my goals, I need a few things to help me to reach the finish line.
A Partner – Yes, I need a partner. A partner that will hold me accountable whether it is regarding my spiritual walk or self control in Kit Kat wafers. A partner that will challenge me financially (which in this case, it will be my spouse). “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)
A Planner – This year, I got myself a LWSL planner to manage the day-to-day details in order to work towards my goals. This planner has been highly recommended by many moms. And let’s face it – life surely can be a little crazy at times. I believe the planner will definitely guide me in the things I want to accomplish, keep an eye on the financial picture, and most of all, get things done.
Faith, Hope, Love – I don’t know about you, but I do know I cling on to these 3 popular words from the bible when I feel defeated. I need to have faith when I feel it’s impossible. I have to keep my hopes high when I feel like giving up. And most importantly, I have to love because Christ loves us first.
Space for Grace – I have to admit that when I am defeated, I have to constantly remember my own name and give myself grace. If my children make mistakes, I have to offer them grace. Grace is such an unmerited favor that Christ has portrayed and we are to imitate Him in showing grace to others.
Be Intentional – I have to be intentional in the things I want to do. I have to be intentional to be disciplined. If I want to bear all the nine fruits of the spirit, I have to be intentional in working on them. It’s not going to be a bed of roses all the time, as much as I’d like it to be, but I know being intentional (especially when it comes to discipline) will be fruitful. “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:11)
Now with all said and done, I urge each of you to be encouraged. Be strong and fight for a fruitful year ahead!
